Welcoming a new baby into your family is such an exciting and memorable time, and I’m thrilled to help you capture these precious moments. As an Ottawa newborn photographer, my passion is creating timeless keepsakes that you and your family will treasure forever. Newborn sessions are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate this special milestone and preserve those tiny details that change so quickly.
If you’ve booked or are considering booking a newborn session with Lindsay Maahs Photography, here’s a step-by-step guide on what you can expect from start to finish:
1. Initial Contact
Once you’ve reached out, we’ll begin by going over the various packages I offer and chat about which one aligns best with your needs. Whether you want a simple, timeless session or a collection of keepsake images, we’ll find the perfect fit for you.
2. Reserving Dates Around Your Due Date
Since babies tend to arrive on their own schedule, I take a flexible approach to booking. We’ll discuss a couple of tentative dates based around your due date and hold those spots until your little one arrives. By finalizing the date after baby arrives, ensures space in my calendar while also allowing room to adjust as needed.
3. Getting Prepared: Agreements and Questionnaires
Once your session is tentatively scheduled, I’ll send over some paperwork to help us get everything organized. This includes:
Photography Agreement: This outlines all the terms and details of the session so you know exactly what to expect.
Newborn Questionnaire: This is where you get to select color palettes, styles, and other preferences for your session. It’s a wonderful way to customize your photos and ensure they reflect your family’s personality.
To complete your booking, a $50 retainer is required. This retainer secures your session and ensures your reserved dates are held.
4. Touching Base Before Baby Arrives
As your due date approaches, I’ll check in to confirm that the reserved dates still work for your schedule. If any changes are needed, we’ll adjust accordingly to make sure everything is perfectly planned.
5. Finalizing the Session Date
Once your baby has arrived and you’ve had some time to settle in, simply reach out to let me know. At this point, we’ll finalize the best date for your newborn session. These sessions are ideally held when your baby is between 5 and 21 days old, as this is when they’re still very sleepy and can be gently posed for those adorable shots we all love.
6. The Session Experience
On the day of your session, I’ll create a calm and comfortable environment for you and your baby in my cozy home studio. While it’s a small space, it’s thoughtfully designed and perfectly suited for newborn and family portraiture. From soft lighting to curated props, everything is prepared to ensure your session feels relaxed and enjoyable. My goal as an Ottawa newborn photographer is to make sure you feel at ease while I capture these precious memories.
7. After Your Session
After your session, I’ll transfer your images and securely save them in multiple locations, including several hard drives, to ensure their safety. Within 7-10 days, I’ll send you a link to your proofing gallery.
This gallery will be lightly edited for viewing purposes, and once you make your selections, your chosen images will go through my full professional editing process. You’ll have 10 days to review the gallery and make your selections. While each package includes a set number of images, additional images are always available for purchase. You can choose to buy extras individually or in bundles of 5, 10, or 25.
Once you’ve finalized your selections, I’ll individually edit and retouch each image, enhancing them with professional techniques to ensure they’re absolutely perfect.
8. Receiving Your Final Images
Once your selected images are fully edited, I will send you a link to download your final gallery. You’ll have 7 days to download your images and save them to multiple locations at home to ensure they’re safely preserved.
